1932 Original Catalogue Des Verreries De Rene Lalique By R. Lalique et Cie 1932 French 150 Pages, 1500 R.Lalique Items in Photos Good Condition Hardcover 1932 Original R. Lalique et Cie Sales Catalog. This is the original Rene Lalique catalogue referred to in the front of the 1981 Dover Reprint (the soft cover modern reproduction that most collectors have) where it notes in the introduction that there are a few known original catalogues in museums. The three known originals referred to are in The New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Corning Museum of Glass, and a catalogue without the price list in the rear (the same as this one) in The Cooper-Hewitt Museum. Subsequent to the publication of the Dover Reprint, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris obtained an original 1932 catalogue thru the donation of a major long time collector. The fact of this Rene Lalique catalogue being in the possession of these four great museums, should say enough about how important this Rene Lalique catalogue is. A serious historical and academic museum quality catalogue of immense importance to the most serious collector or museum. Good condition in original hard covers. There is fritting to the covering of the rear hinge edge, the start of separation of that hinge, though it is attached it seems like it's loosening, and some foxing near the ends of some of the pages most notably affecting the end papers. The photos in this catalogue were taken by Lalique's son-in-law PAUL HAVILAND. The catalogue was first printed in March of 1932 by the French printer THÉO BRUGIÈRE. Interested buyers should consider that this catalogue was created as a salesman's catalogue, so that specific examples might not be complete. The catalogue was constructed to be able to remove and/or replace pages as circumstances warranted based on product availablity and whatever other considerations about inventory etc. would be relevant. And the original catalogues now being over 90 years old (as of 2024), other pages may have gone missing in the course of time. Finally, there are 3 or 4 modern versions of reprinted copies of this catalogue that are generally available. We know that none of those modern copies are complete. For example, the most ubiquitous copy of them all, the Dover copy commissioned by the Corning Musuem in New York was copied from a 1932 Catalogue that was damaged in a flood and is obviously incomplete. We say this based on examples of the original catalogue in our inventory. Stock No. 724 $5000 |
