Note: Obernai is a small town in Alsace near the German border in northeast France. It's about a 5 hour drive, or around 240 crow flies miles nearly due east from Paris located just below Strasburg. The population is around 11,000 (2017) and the town retains much of its historic feel. It was founded in the late 700's and like so many towns in Alsace, it has changed hands over time. It was aligned with the Holy Roman Empire in the 1300's, and was controlled by the Germans (they got it when Lalique was just 11 years old), and even the Swedes at some point. Obernai is the birthplace of Sainte-Odile, the daughter of one of the Dukes of Alsace that controlled the town, and the namesake taken by the winery that contracted with Lalique for its bottles and a few other items. Today Obernai maintains its historic reputation as a wine center and it has some great early buildings including the Church of Saints Peter and Paul and a couple of great castles. This photo link will give you a good feel for things.

Also Note: Compare the split grapes-on-vines motif of the circular shaped stem decoration to the similar design of the rhombus shaped decoration on the Saverne Glasses.
