Rene Lalique Tokyo Candleholder information and photos at RLalique.com are tied together on this main Tokyo Candleholders page. Past and future auctions, historical details, sales, copies, reproductions, articles and more are all accessible from here. This page grows as more info is added to the website. Note: In Japan, the traditional home of the Emperor and the historic cultural center of the country was in Kyoto for more than 1000 years ending in 1868 when Lalique was just 8 years old. Kyoto was considered the capital of Japan up until that time. In 1868, the Emperor moved the seat of the Japanese government to the city of Edo, and renamed the city Tokyo.
Also Note: There are a large amount of tableware items floating around that are in the style of Nippon and Tokyo, but are not Nippon, Tokyo, or R. Lalique. These items are either unmarked or have spurious later added signatures for R. Lalique. If you cannot find your exact tableware item on this page or on (or linked from) one of the other Tokyo pages in the Matching Tableware box on the right side here, AND you cannot find it doing a similar search at the pages for the R. Lalique Nippon model, then you should not buy it. There are 2 exceptions. The 1st is for authentic R. Lalique flat square panels often advertised as plates that have various pearls patterns that are not part of either set, but that sometimes come up for sale with Tokyo and Nippon because they match well. In the case of these "plates" you can check the Architectural page to see if they are known models of R. Lalique panels. All the relevant "plates" have the word Perle, Perlee or Perles in the name. These "plates" typically come in 2 sizes of approximately 17.5 cm and 29 cm. The 2nd exception is for the Saint-Gall Jardiniere that appears with both Nippon and Tokyo items with some frequency because it also matches well. Keep in mind standard measurements for all items may be a bit off (1/2 a centimeter would not be unusual for larger items). But the design and shape has to match exactly and the size has to be close.
