Note: Saint Christopher is said to have lived during the 3rd century. He is reputed to have safely carried Christ across a dangerous river and is known as the patron saint of travelers. What a great symbol as a car mascot. The Eastern Orthodox religion celebrates a feast day for Saint Christopher on May 9th.

Also Note: This is the 1928 Saint-Christophe Car Mascot Model No. 1142 without the incorporated base. The two drilled holes are for installation as a dashboard badge. Because of the history of Saint Christophe, his likeness was popular in the early automobile era as a dashboard badge. It was a lucky charm of sorts. We have never seen any evidence that Lalique sold the medallion this way, but there have been too many appear over the years with the two screw holes for it not to have been some kind of thing at some point in the motoring industry. The mascot itself was continued after the war with the R. Lalique signature so it's not possible to confidently date specific examples of these from photos for pre-war R. Lalique or post-war R. Lalique Crystal.
