Note: Hagueneau is a small city about 20 miles north of Strasbourg in eastern France. It's a 4 to 5 hour drive east from Paris and has a population of around 35,000 (2015). Its roots go back nearly a thousand years. In the early 1100's it sported an Imperial Palace that was built by the Holy Roman Emperor at the time. Like so many places along the French/German border, it has changed ownership frequently. And much of Hagueneau was repeatedly damaged during its lifetime. Yet to this day it still retains many of its centuries old charms including several of the original gates from its prior fortifications. You can get a good feel for the place in these pictures.
