Rene Lalique Statuette Cote d'Azur: 16.5 cm tall being a windswept nude female emerging from the incorporated base R. Lalique Statuette. Lot No. 441 Est: €3000 - €4000. Note: There are 2 versions of this statuette. The present statuette has memorialized lettering on the outer edge of the base in addition to the R. Lalique signature. The 2nd version is the same basic form but without any lettering (other than the R. Lalique signature) on the outer edge of the base. Model: Statue-Cote D'Azur Circa 1929. Note: There are 23 lots in the sale titled for René Lalique. You can see them all HERE! WE RECOMMEND AVOIDING 2 of those 23 lots. 1st Lot to avoid is Lot 448 which is a Festons Centerpiece composed of both pre-war and post-war pieces and so should be avoided if you are only looking for R. Lalique. The 2nd lot to avoid is Lot 444 and it is also titled for René Lalique. The items in Lot 444 lot are called "Mesanges" by the auction house. Both the René Lalique title and the "Mesanges" name for the items are incorrect. Lot 444 in reality is 2 bottles and the box from the Cristal Lalique Robinson Garniture de toilette. The Robinson Garniture was created in 1946 by Marc Lalique. It is shown on Page 121 of the Utt's Lalique Perfume Bottles book with the statement that it was created as we describe. In addition, in the period around 1999/2001 the Utts returned to France for the purpose of updating the original 1986 book with an addendum based on all we've learned since it was published that we didn't know back in 1986. They were given access to all relevant records by the Lalique company. They made lots of corrections. However, in the 2001 addendum the Robinson model name and it's creation in 1946 by Marc Lalique are re-stated as fact without needing any correction. Finally, the Robinson items in Lot 444 appear in the 2nd Lalique Par Lalique (LPL) book published by the Lalique company (1988 edition and the bigger of the 2 LPL book versions) properly identified as Robinson on Pages 340/341 with the Cristal Lalique model numbers.

Finally, you can read more info about the creation of this statuette and the meaning of the edge lettering on the Cote d'Azur Model Page in the René Lalique Catalogue on the website.
