Rene Lalique A Travers La Voilette Perfume Bottle information and photos at RLalique.com are tied together on this main A Travers La Voilette Perfume Bottles page. Past and future auctions, historical details, sales, copies, reproductions, articles and more are all accessible from here. This page grows as more info is added to the website. Note: À travers la voilette is French for through the veil. It's the name of the fragrance for which the bottle was created.
Also Note: This bottle with this decoration and labeled for À Travers La Voilette is known in 2 heights of approximately 7.3 cm and 8.5 cm. Both sizes are molded R.LALIQUE to the underside.
Also Note: The veil design on the bottle appears to be cold-painted but the bottle has not been seen with any signature for the cold-paint artist.
Also Note: In addition to this veil decorated bottle, there is a cold-painted À Travers La Voilette Floral Design Perfume Bottle that uses the same basic bottle in the same 2 sizes as this veil version. The floral bottles are signed for the cold-paint artist Alix. We treat the veil and floral bottles as separate models in the catalogue just as if they were different molded decorations.
Also Note: Ignoring decoration, labels, and packaging, the À Travers bottles are the same basic bottle model as all the bottles shown and discussed on the Isabey Chypre Celtic Perfume Bottle page.
Also Note: The larger and smaller versions of the veil motif bottle, and the larger version of the floral motif bottle have appeared in a wonderfully decorated outer box (not designed by Lalique), a box you can see in the May 2021 listing below. Looking at the pictures in that listing it's apparent that the decoration on the bottle reflects the veil design on the bottle's outer box that itself reflects the name of the fragrance. We also believe this veil motif bottle is likely the original version of the À Travers bottle based on the fact that it comports with the design on the outer box.
Also Note: We also came across an À Travers outer box that has a very similar (but not as effective) design to the great Senorita box used for the Lalique supplied bottles. According to one of the French perfume bottle experts (so not us) Isabey used a known Julien Viard Bottle for the À Travers fragrance. Because the Senorita box version used for the Lalique bottles is so much more effective, we speculate that this alternate box is an earlier example that was briefly used for that Julien Viard Bottle and that it's use pre-dates Isabey's use of Lalique Bottles for À Travers. For ease of comparison of the boxes and bottles, we've appended a picture of that alternate box and a picture of the Viard bottle to the May 2021 listing below where the box and bottle appear at the bottom of the listing page after the pictures from that May 2021 auction listing.
Also Note: The Lalique bottles have appeared with either a round or rectangular gold label. Both labels have the same wording: A TRAVERS LA VOILETTE ISABEY PARIS.
Finally: Isabey created an outer box design for other fragrances that had the same basic bottle as shown here but without a cold-painted decoration. That outer box design for those other non cold-painted bottles mimics and so we believe post-dates the cold-painted decoration on this bottle. See Gardenia d'Isabey and Isabey's Lilas for examples of that outer box.
