Rene Lalique Imprudence Perfume Bottle information and photos at RLalique.com are tied together on this main Imprudence Perfume Bottles page. Past and future auctions, historical details, sales, copies, reproductions, articles and more are all accessible from here. This page grows as more info is added to the website. Note: Imprudence has the same meanings in French as in English: rashness, recklessness, foolhardiness, carelessness, and indiscretion.
Also Note: This bottle has appeared in at least half-a-dozen different sizes ranging from approximately 6 cm to 24 cm.
Also Note: Some examples of this bottle have been seen with a silver reflective decoration along the edges of the tiers. The January 19, 2020 listing below has a good example.
Also Note: The bottle is molded R. LALIQUE and sometimes FRENCH BOTTLE to the underside. Examples of this bottle with the silvered edges have been seen signed with the block letter acid etched signature R. LALIQUE FRANCE. You can see several examples of that signature in the listings below. If you have sufficient expertise to judge the authenticity of the bottle and that signature, you can ignore the "only molded signatures" advice we give a couple of notes down for this model only. Later post-war bottles by Cristal Lalique are only signed Lalique.
Also Note: The modern reproduction of this bottle has a cube shaped stopper. If it has a cube stopper it's post-war no matter what the signature underneath says. See the further comment on this subject below.
Also Note: You want a bottle you first determine is authentic, with the pre-war stopper shown in the listings below, with the molded R. LALIQUE signature to the underside, without the word CREATION and without a Lalique France engraved signature or any other engraved signature. Finally, noting that many Worth bottles have the fluid ounces they contain marked on the bottom, typically in the form 1 FL OZ, if the underside of the bottle has ANY out-of-place, unexpected, or unexplained molded letters, numbers, or words such as (these are just examples) HP, VN, NA, CHIBO, or ANY others, those will be the mark of another glassmaker or an indication the bottle was made by another glassmaker. So even if your bottle has the expected molded R. Lalique signature to the underside, if it has ANY unexpected unknown out-of-place molded letters, numbers or words, you should avoid the bottle as it was not produced with Rene Lalique et Cie molds.
Also Note: You want a bottle without any condition issues. There are relatively a lot of these bottles out there and there's no reason to acquire one with issues.
Also Note: In the extensive 2001 addendum to their 1990 seminal work Lalique Perfume Bottles, the Utts state unequivocally that the narrow cylinder shaped stopper for Imprudence bottles was not replaced with the heavier cube version by Marc Lalique until 1952. Other authoritative information explicitly says after 1945. And of course the cube stopper is not included in the catalogue raisonne. We are aware that the cube stopper has appeared on bottles that have the molded R. Lalique signature. However those bottles were made after the war from old molds having the pre-war signature until the molds wore-out and had to be replaced.
Also Note: Compare the design of this bottle to the stem on the Tonnerre Glass that came a year earlier.
