Note: In both French and English, dahlias are any of the over 40 different species of the flowering bushy perennial plant originally from Central America and Mexico. Dahlias are a member of the same plant family as daisies, sunflowers, zinnias, and chrysanthemum. Because dahlias are tuberous, they can be a food source. When the Spanish arrived in Mexico in the early 1500's, dahlia tubers were being cultivated and eaten by the Aztecs. Today the dahlia is the Mexican national flower.

Also Note: We don't know if the flat rectangular stopper on the bottle shown is original to the bottle. It appears out of sync with the close-by round rim.

Also Note: The catalogue raisonne shows a 10 cm variant stopperless version of this bottle on Page 321 with the floral medallion being a half-oval and connecting to the top of the bottle under the short neck instead of being centrally located on the face.
