Note: Zinnias is the same word in French and English. They are brightly colored American annuals from the daisy family. Their habitat extends from the U.S. Southwest all the way to South America. They are typically found in scrubby or dry grassland areas.

Also Note: For the year 1923 there are only 2 new commercial glass boxes recorded. They are this Zinnias Box and the similar Hirondelles Box Model 53. The 2 boxes are the same shape and size (10 cm by 8 cm rectangles with canted corners) and they share the same herringbone decorated base. The only difference is the design on the top of the lid. For both boxes the side of the lid matches the herringbone pattern of the container. And both boxes were marketed as "boite à cigarettes".
