Rene Lalique Sirene Bouchon et Masques Bakelite Base Motif Decoratif: The stopper for the vase Sirenes Avec Bouchon Figurine Model No. 883 fitted into the Bakelite Base Masques, originally made for any of 4 Lalique Veilleuses (table lamps) Models 2553 thru 2556 respectively and being the R. Lalique Veilleuses Graines D'Asperges, Amours, Pommier Du Japon, and Hirondelles corps Tourbillons. In the last 30 years only two of these Motif Decoratifs have appeared at auction that we are aware of. One appeared in France, the other in the U.S. in Florida. A third example was found at an antiques fair in the UK. One example did not yet have the little hole typically drilled thru the mouth of one of the masques on the base for an electric cord to come out of. Both auction stoppers were signed. This Motif Decoratif almost certainly was assembled and sold by R. Lalique et Cie. It is highly unlikely anyone else had these authentic bakelite bases and authentic original stoppers. It is likely Lalique had extra bakelite bases and decided to make use of them. We have the mate to this item, and can sell a pair together. We guarantee authenticity of both the base and the stopper.
